ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, OR NOTES:

<<<     >>>

A FEW TIPS TO MAKE YOUR EVENT RUN MORE SMOOTHLY!

1)  The DJ booth/area should be as close to the dance floor as possible so the DJ can easily and quickly do sound quality and volume checks, take requests from guests, and see important things (like when the Dollar Dance is over and the next song should begin). Many times people want to be put the DJ up on a balcony or deck. Please don't--as close to the dance floor as possible is the best place for the DJ!

2)  Please have a rehearsal! Not only that but have a rehearsal that is as close to the real thing as possible. You would never send a basketball team out to play in the biggest game off their life without practicing, practicing, practicing! A good rehearsal includes making a "Plan B" for certain things too (like if we can't get the rings untied from the ring pillow--I've seen that happen--someone should have a tiny pair of sewing scissors in their pocket). Some of the problems you'll encounter if you don't do a good rehearsal: timing, standing in the right spot, when to start walking, how should we walk, what do we do after we kiss, etc.

3)  Do not make alcohol available to your guests before the wedding ceremony (or during). I've heard guests heckling the bride and groom because they were already drunk by the time the ceremony started. This is a particular concern when you're doing a self-serve bar, backyard wedding, OR if the bride and groom are late to start the ceremony and the guests get bored while they wait.

4)  Disco/party lighting contributes significantly towards creating a "dance environment." It helps set the right mood to encourage your guests to dance. We have noticed that events with party lighting have significantly more dancing. Also, if your dance floor is huge, party lighting will encourage the guests to dance near each other (under the lights), thus creating the look that more people are dancing, which in turn encourages more people to dance!

5)  Think very carefully about where you set up the dance floor (especially if this is a backyard event and you must create the lay-out yourself). If the dance floor is around the corner, on the far side of the pool, on another level (a second story deck, while the food is downstairs), this will significantly reduce the amount of dancing your guests do. The dance floor should be as close to the food and tables as possible (if not next to them, it should AT LEAST be nearby and visible from that area). At great events, the dance floor is the center of the party. Think about it, your guests will do whatever they have to to find the free food (walk to another level, walk to the far side of the pool, etc), but only very dedicated guests will "work" to find the dance floor!
