About Me:

I was born and raised in Washington state. I started running Track in first grade. I also participated in my high school's powerhouse Debate and Speech Team. In school, I was voted "Most Likely to Succeed," was in the French Club and student government, and earned 7 years of Perfect Attendance.  I was the President of the Honor Society in high school and in the Mortar Board Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in college.

At the University of Redlands, I was in a special program called the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies. As a Johnston student, I got to design my own major, got written evaluations instead of grades, created "course contracts" for any work I did that deviated from the syllabus, and lived in a self-governing community. At Redlands, I was a two-time NCAA All American in Track and Field, set the school High Jump record, and set the Conference Meet record. I graduated in 3 years with Sociology departmental honors.

I have performed community service for a variety of organizations
, including: the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino, Inland Counties Legal Services, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Shrine, San Bernardino Sexual Assault Services, San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, Boeing Employee's Parapsychology Club, Shop with a Cop, and Redlands Spiritual Treatment Center. Also, I volunteered as a tour guide and admissions host for the University of Redlands Admissions office and was voted "Volunteer Admissions Host of the Year."

In addition to my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Poetry, and Pre-Law, I have a paralegal certificate, proofreading certificate, and a sexual assault counseling certificate. I have also completed US Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy. As an officer, I served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), was on the promotions list, and earned several commendations. I have also owned my own independent paralegal business, Do It Yourself Documents. Before I sold the business, it was voted "Best New Business" and "Best New Website" by the local newspaper.

I have been married to Octavio Marquez since October, 2007. We enjoy traveling, country line dancing, playing poker, the beach, and watching documentaries. Additionally, I enjoy making soap, writing, public speaking, cooking, Harry Potter, hiking, and horses. I have been a strict vegetarian since 1994.
